VANdalism
Ok here's what happened: when Dad and I got back in from driving around to keep me awake, the lot for the hotel was completely full so the guy at the front said to park under the streetlight in the adjacent "vacant" parking lot. Earlier in the day, it looked pretty patetic and didn't look much better at night. The guy said he parked in that spot all the time and since there was nowhere else to park, we parked there. While walking back to the hotel, Dad got this sudden feeling like the car wasn't locked or something and went back to check on it. It was fine so we went in.
Come daylight, we look out the window to the parking lot. To me, it looks fine: a dark van and another car that musta pulled in after us. So we haul all our stuff outside and rather than haul it all the way out to the van, Dad went to go get the van to bring it to us. In about one minute, Dad walks back to us and says: "I can't bring the van around cuz it ain't there."
That's right: SOME BASTARD STOLE OUR VAN!!!
Maybe it was because I was so out of it cuz it was the 47th hour, but after walking the entirety of both lots (didn't really have to on the second one- the wrong van and the reddish suv were the only 2 vehicles there), we went inside and called the cops. I was really sour and kept watch over the bags like a hawk. A couple of folks asked us about it (news travels fast in the breakfast foyer) and I was the first of us to talk w/the cops. After some talking, Mom & Dad had to go do legal stuff and check out the parking space.
Meanwhile, Aunt C had to come get Dad after I got settled into my room and the cops started looking at towings. On the news when they mentioned carjackings and stuff, for the first time I wondered legitimately if it was our car/van. No luck yet and insurance won't cover theft either.
The very first thing I ever tie-dyed was a "spray-dye" for a pillowcase. That pillowcase was in the van. Need I say more?

UPDATE: I learned later that Dad had taken the bag with said pillowcase out of the van before we left. (whew!) We also still hadn't put the removeable rear seat back in the van either...[11:20pm 6/20/3]
JUST REMEMBERED: As we were driving out of town, we passed the same hotel and we saw that the "wrong van" was still there. Dad stopped the car and decided to go check that van out again. It was parked immediately next to where ours had been and I originally thought that someone had stolen our car and replaced it with this one. We were both right: Dad wrote down the license number and we stopped in at the cops to get a copy of the report and they ran the plate. The blue van was stolen too. Greeeeeeat.[1137pm 6/20/3]
