WIRED is Smart
At least they get their terminology correct. RIAA is suing the uploaders who upload 1000 songs or more. About damn time someone used the term "uploader"...

If they're gonna go after them...
...they'll need to address the issue of addiction. You know what I'm talking about, it started on Monday.
I'm telling you this right now, my intent for using KaZaA in the first place (I stopped months ago- you hear me? I STOPPED!) was to find one song that has been impossible to find because it's an opera album that may or may not have made it onto cd.
So why did I keep going after I found it? I got hooked. I kept thinking "cool, now that I've found this, I wonder what else I can find!" And it kept on going and going and going. I wanted to stop and knowing myself I needed a good swift kick in the ass in order to do it. I knew I was headed down the road to disaster when I found myself thinking "who needs the radio when you've got this?"
That was too far and I wanted out when I felt myself think that. I did get my good swift kick in the ass and quitted the practice.
Now, if RIAA is gonna go after the supernodes and then trickle down (how they intend to get all 60 million users if that's what they're going for I'll never know) then one issue that's going to have to come up is addiction. If no one else tells them about it, I will.
Btw, I found said opera song on my first try. It came out perfectly, it DID make it to cd, but derned if I can get my hands on a copy. If only the house approved of shopping online, but I ain't letting our credit card numbers fly around cyberspace. I wonder if we can special order it...

Pirates as in ARGH!
Saw Pirates of the Carribean on Saturday. VERY GOOD!
Problem is: I wasn't online just after seeing the film and there was SO MUCH good stuff that it was choc full of that I can't give you the normal run-down of the film as I usually do so I'll just give y'all these instead:
Capt. Jack Sparrow: Johnny Depp is good. DAMN GOOD! I LOVE THIS CHARACTER!!!! He's a real trip! Clever, entertaining, slips up, improvises, looks like a hippie-turned-pirate...I love this guy!
Sabé: I don't remember her name (I just woke up, bear with me please), but she does look like Natalie Portman but with bigger eyes. I coulda sworn I've seen her somewhere else too. She's alright, but I was paying more attention to the character than the actor. She's a FAR better compliment for Sparrow than for Legolas. I actually expected Legolas to be killed and her to end up with Sparrow. Seriously. They'd be really great together!
Legolas -er- William Turner: Son of Bootstrap. Someone PLEASE tell me where his Dad got this name! Someone also please tell me where this youngin' Sparrow found the Fountain of Youth in order to have known both Bootstrap and his (Sparrow's) really old mutinous first mate. Legolas is no elf, but he swings a mean sword...in the smithie shop. Doesn't get much elsewhere.
The Black Pearl: I need to hear more of this "legend" behind the ship, but I love Sparrow's crack about the survivors. ;-)
The Curse: Define the curse please- I'm still shaky on the exact thing. I get why it's important to the fighting, but then again, why didn't Jack Sparrow die?
The monkey: Okay he's cute, but he's too high-pitched and can get a bit annoying.
Geoffrey Rush: Didn't recognize him underneath that beard and the monkey. Didn't catch the name either. Like I said, the beard and the monkey...oh and the stupid hat.
ARGH! yes yes yes we all know pirates say "argh!" ...so let's add a new soundbyte to our list!
The British Navy: Too convenient how they follow and get there so quick. Glad he released her from the engagement (the Commander that is) but I expected far more of a fight than that.
The Crew: I wish the movie were longer so we could get to know that crew Sparrow put together better. Was that Maria from K-PAX?
Credits: Not for the first time, the lights have come on while the end credits were rolling and as a result I couldn't really see them. This started happening this summer and I've heard many many complaints on RASSM about this practice becoming more commonplace. It pisses me off quite frankly. And yes there really is a small something at the end of the credits so the family in front was right. Without these extra seconds, there's still room for a sequel.
Now I know this sounds like mostly negative stuff, but this is the vast majority of anything negative I can think of to say about the movie. Now, compare this list to the good stuff I wrote about Finding Nemo. Short list of negatives isn't it? So like I said, VERY GOOD! I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!!!!!!! I hope it gets a really good and packed DVD treatment when it comes out.

Summer's on Sale
Every now and then in retail, you get these periods of time where lots of things of a certain type (electronics, clothing, school supplies etc) all go on sale at the same time, or they naturally fall in price all at the same time. This summer has been the summer of widgets thanks to falling prices. Dad bought the first 2 widgets of the past 4 weeks- I bought the twin players yesterday.
Of course the actual *value* of the widgets are now down to nil, but the point is: patience pays off!
That said, my birthday's next month (WOW it's September already!) which means it's now time to take that DVD wishlist that I started months ago, post it, and start ticking things off...

For only $85...
You too can have a new DVD player. And for twice the price you can get 2! (imagine that :-D )
And 24 hours later, you can debate about whether to watch the 4th DVD you bought "so you can test it/start stocking up!" or let Dad finish the one we started yesterday.
