Joyride
As I was putting down a filebox in my room, the Millennium Falcon on one of my speakers (the big model I put together in about an hour several years back) decided it wanted to fly so after it bumped something on its way down, it came to a landing and now the desk crew is in trouble. I don't know if the sigs did it, or the Pokémon, or the dolls & giraffe, but the thing is now damaged...again.
It lost the satellite dish (hahaha- ok seriously) and one of the underside panels. It's currently back on its speaker but it's gonna need surgery to get it back together. I'll have to crack her open- again. This will be the second time in about 10 years that I've had to reattatch the satellite dish (first time Mom broke it when she leaned on the bed the wrong way) and hopefully it won't be as messy as last time, cuz last time I had to damn near take the top off just to get my hand in there.
I don't have the glue with me so it's going to be "in trauma" for awhile. Perhaps tomorrow.
And the funny thing is, the box that I was moving at the time was my precious natural disasters filebox. It's got earthquakes in it. :-)
Hmm, that almost sounds like a Sith War idea...(please don't take it- I wanna use it).

Linkies...
Eh so I added a few links and took one away- that one is meant to be something else at some other time...actually it's now it just needs to be redone. Just like .Significant Rebellion: the sigs are pissed that Artie's site got into the template before theirs, but then again they got into my site template before Artie so there.

"Don't drink, don't smoke, don't f*ck."
Apparently this is the basic of basics for being considered "straight-edged". I guess I'm a straight-edge then!
And according to a fellow RASSMer, I'm a legend by definition! :-D
Thanks to lawriemalen and straight-edge.com for the sXe clarification.

Black Boots
"Why do I think I wear these black boots? Why do I wear three pairs of black boots? I feel a little stronger, I feel a little taller, I identify with the color, I like myself in these black boots." -Paula Cole, "Black Boots"
It's happened: 3 pairs of black boots are now in my arsenal! Number 4 is expected in January after the freeze. 2 for dress, 2 for the rest.
Today we went to Red Wing to replace my second pair of Red Wing boots (got my first in 8th grade) which finally died on me this past winter. Since then my only real pair of day-to-day shoes has been a clone (yes I found an identical pair 2-3 years later) of some Skeechers I got in high school. Wearing 3 layers of socks to keep warm while wearing "tennis shoes" is nuts. Wearing 1 or 2 layers of socks to keep warm while wearing boots is smart.
I'm so glad I got some decent boots back. I'm not glad that the Red Wing boot-makers decided to make the womens' "boots" not look or even really *be* boots. I am VERY glad, that the employee there today saw that and made the appropriate "adjustment". Now let's hope Dad doesn't confuse mine for his. ;-D

RIP Brownie
At around 8:33 pm on 11/16 of last year, our beloved dog Brownie was hit by a car. At around 9:05 that same night, she was euthanized.
We had let her out because she wanted to go out. Mom says she had this look about her that told her that something was up and that she needed to go outside. We'll never know what it was that made her want to go outside that night, or why she ran into the street, but one thing we do know: fence in your yard!!! If you can't be with your dog outside at all times and if the leash don't work, fence in the yard.
Also don't do target practice near residential areas or shoot off firecrackers out of season. There was lots of that outside that night and Brownie was always extremely skiddish about those kinds of noises. In the 18 months we had her (SPCA rescue), there were rarely any thunderstorms. Thank goodness because Brownie was scared of them, a bit more than usual.
This is the picture I use the most often of Brownie and it was taken about 3 days after we brought her home. We didn't take too many pix of out pup, but she's got the biggest smile in this one.

Brownie
I'd go on and on about her but there isn't enough room. When she was still alive, I wanted to make a webpage for her so we could keep our funny nicknames and her funny quirks on. That page was never realized and I'm thinking it should be soon before we forget.
I had some macaroni and cheese for dinner tonight and there was no big black cold wet nose to beg for it.

Harry Potter notes
These are my notes on the new Harry Potter movie. It's got spoilers so you'll need to highlight if you want to read them:
Once again I was guessing stuff seconds before it happened, altho there *were* a few things I got wrong. Others just downright confused me: like how was it that Ginny opened the chamber. Aunt C and I talked it out and remembered/realized that it was Riddle aka Voldemort who used her in order to do it: Voldemort is the Slytherin heir, Harry inherited the snake-talk power. Harry talked to a snake in the first movie too, but not in snake-tongue (no pun intended...ok only a bit). I guessed where the chamber was: the camera pan gave it away.
I'm still scared of spiders but for some reason it didn't creep me out onscreen nearly as bad as it normally does. Maybe it was because most of the room was sqirming along with me (I think the theater was 97% full; rivals that of my ID4 viewing). First time I actually screamed in a theater during a film. Aunt C didn't like those either- I thought she was over it (yeah right Aunt C ;-) ). Kenneith B was good in his role at making you dislike him as a disgusting over-the-top showman, and it was weird hearing call Snape by his first name...tho I've forgotten what it was. The film itself seemed to be darker- maybe it was our print.
I think they should've given Hagrid his wand back now that he's been proven innocent. It was weird seeing someone else as Voldemort and in a younger state. Hagrid was indeed the "right person to tell Harry". I could see that Hermoine would get hurt somehow and the window reflection was an easy guess. I loved the way Harry told off Malfoy Sr and freed the house elf at the same time (yes I guessed whose sock it was, yes I wanted and hoped and guessed that Harry would free him REAL darn soon, but I didn't know why Harry wanted the book). I don't know how Harry got the sword. Is he Griffendor blood? How did the phoenix get there? The "loyalty" answer seemed a bit like a cop-out, but the "pull that out of a hat" bit was a VERY GOOD PUN! :-D Hehehe.
Anyway, I'm sure the "loyalty" thing was a 'lesson' or something since this *is* a kids book after all. I'm gonna hafta start reading those since I'm obviously missing stuff and it was obvious that stuff *was* missing from the movie. Of all the work they did on the Chamber and not on schoolwork (made for a very odd feeling indeed but then again this isn't the first movie here) you'd think they'd do a bit more explaining. Again, I guess "read the book" is that particular lesson there.
Some of the AAI gals are right: Snape (or rather the actor but in my case I think it is Snape...and his character from Sense & Sensibility) is rather a bit adorable. You just wanna give him a hug. Plus he looks like he needs one. He's a bit slimier and creepier in this movie, but then again, there's always Hagrid. ;-D The "kids" have certainly grown up and I have a feeling that Daniel Radcliffe's gonna be getting a lot of adoring female fans soon if he hasn't already.
Do NOT buy the large sized drink when you see this movie or else you will have to start holding it by the end of the first 60-90 minutes and you will miss the credits. I MISSED THE END CREDITS! I'm so upset! (ok so it's only mentally, my emotions were a bit preoccupied with my bladder at the time) That's SO rare that I miss the end credits and I don't wanna hafta pay IMDB a visit for them. This movie is "not as good as the first, but then again, this movie is not the first". Also, the house elf did not do away with the letters as he did in the book- I did overhear a good family friend of mine read that particular passage etc during my last visit up north (Re: RI).
Um...I think that's it. If there's any more I'll let you know, but for now, that's it! Oh and it's a bit loud too.

Re-Rhode Island Trip
I *think* this is in order:
The cd-to-stereo cassette tape died when I took out a wool blanket that started to disentegrate and stick to everything. I *almost* paid DG an unexpected visit on the way up, and got stuck in traffic in between the red line and the George Washington Bridge for about an hour on the way back.
The New Jersey Turnpike also seemed to have something against us this go-round as we had trouble getting onto it on the way up and getting off of it on the way back- promptly getting lost both times. The beltway around Raleigh doesn't seem to like us either.
The great chinese joint seemed to have disappeared off of the map or at least from the highway sign vocabulary. It was nowhere near as cold as it was back in January, but I dressed twice as warmly. We got the room next door to where we were last time (mirrored layout of course). Wasn't on the boat very long but it was a shock to see it all gutted like that (yes the bilge is gross but not nearly as much as you'd think).
I lived thru the first major annual meeting and went to my first cocktail party (no I didn't drink and yes I got bored), but I got sick during dinner (who has an impromptu dinner meeting after a cocktail party anyway?) and slept thru the second one the next day- meeting that is.
The biggest motivation for going home quickly was the voting booth. The second was that my birthday present came just *hours* after I left to go up. Same thing happened to poor DG who called the hotel just *hours* after we left to go back down! :-P
No snow. :-( Lots of wind. :-P Computer didn't screw up. :-)
So basically my trip to Rhode Island was one big do-si-do (ARGH!) but I still had fun. :-D

11th Hour Voting
So we got up, braved a family with 2 hyperactive kids trying to get to school, lots of wrong turns, torrential rain, thick fog, and major idiots going 65mph in the fast lane all the way from Arlington Va to home right here in SC's heartland so that we could vote.
I know that sounds like I'm exaggerating but I'm not- I entered my "voting booth" at 6:30pm. And I sucessfully voted my governor out of office!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Of course I'm eating some of my words since I said (on the road) that if we didn't make it, I didn't think it would matter cuz the governor's race wouldn't likely be a close one. I was wrong. CNN's first projection of Hodges vs Sandford showed that it was neck-and-neck. :-P At least my guy won! :-D
...in *that* race anyway. I lost only 1 guy this time, but then again I only voted on 3 races and 2 resolutions...whereas 2 years ago I voted on EVERYTHING. Funny how TNT was also showing the same episode of Law & Order as they did that same night 2 years ago when Florida was giving Tom Brokaw (and the rest of us) major hell.
