Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Having read the first 5 books in one go, this book had to grow on me as I was both in the frenzy of fandom excitement (not present upon the other first reads) and at the same time, was trying to take it all in...at 1 in the morning. :-)
The mall said it would open the doors at 11:30, but apparently they opened them sooner. Dad & I arrived early enough so that my "ticket" to purchase was #10! :-) Had a blast in line! I came home and started reading at around 1am, went to bed around 5am, woke up after 8am, and finished the book around 5pm. Quick read for me for over 600 pages! (WOW)!
So, you want a review and spoilers and my opinion I bet? :-) Spoilers I have. My opinion is: Thanks to the Vow, we still don't have concrete proof as to which side Snape is on. SHOCKING! BRILLIANT! The shippers will be happy. And I want Book 7 *NOW* to answer the Snape question. After reading *this* book <::low whistle::>
The only disadvantage of reading the other books dozens of times (or however many it was, I deliberately didn't keep count) is that you can begin to make very good guesses at certain things, which I did start doing. There was one guess that had crept into my mind unexpectedly about 2 weeks ago that the book confirmed true. I only have 2 real gripes: not enough elaboration and/or inclusion of the Dementors (probably saving it for next book) and not enough classroom time. By that, I mean we've seen Harry in class and interacting with his teachers *less* in this book because of the romances factor. Yes, there's mush. LOTS of mush! And lots of laughs (mainly victorious "AHA!"s)!!!
In short: READ THIS BOOK!!! But you knew I was gonna say that anyway. :-) And that's all I'm gonna say about that. No spoilers for you!
