Nightlight? Don't need it.

I guess you could count this and the green goo post as moving stories so here we go, back to this one:

I've always had a nightlight in my room in one form or another. It used to be the one with the blue bulb in it, and then we moved it into the hallway and I'd keep my door open. Now, when we moved down South, a strange phenomena occurred: in each and every house we've lived in down here, my bedroom window has been on the receiving end of the streetlights at the edge of the lawn.

First time, I had the weaker part of the streetlight's light and so had a white night light in my room (the better to see the large garden spiders with <::shudder::> ick) and the blue nightlight in the hallway. When we moved across town, my bedroom got the full treatment of the streetlight, the treatment of the neighbors' motion-detection outside lights (scared the sh*t out of me one night in particular) and of course, the full-blown treatment of the full moon: thru BOTH windows! And I had a corner bedroom with one window on each side on that one. Blue nightlight still in hallway. But now I've also got a clock radio with bright red lighting to worry about (the glow-in-the-dark handtips of my original wind-up clock never did much in this realm).

Then we move to this town. <pause for rude noises and rolling of the eyes>

First house, again the streetlamp is directly in front of my window, but worse, all of the high-beam headlights from the people who are coming home from the air force base at all hours of the night totally fill my room up. So we closed the blinds (duh)- didn't help. So then we put some thick white sheets over the window- didn't help. So then we bought a very large darkish purple tie-dyed blanket- that pretty much does it. And of course we have the nightlight in the hallway...and the bathroom directly across the hall. Blue nightlight in hallway as bright as ever. Also the clock radio.

Then we move into the house we've now just moved out of. When I slept downstairs briefly (and no I didn't sleep down there first), we blocked the one window with thick lawn & leaf bags, but we still had the blue nightlight in the hallway...and the red lights of the clock radio. In the morning, we got sunlight. In the evening, we got Dad's computer monitor (these were the days when he never turned it off).

When I slept upstairs the first time, I had -you guessed it- the streetlamp shining directly into my window! Plus the red lights from my clock radio. But now I also have a computer with a light display of one red light which flutters, one green light which is like a beacon, and a weird 2-digit green display that turns the room into daylight. Any and all attempts to block it had bad results. Blue nightlight remained downstairs and on the other side of the house.

When I slept upstairs the second time, I still had the streetlamp, the clock radio, the computer (we finally unplugged that useless digital display- but now I got 2 cd drives that like to blink at me), and now a vcr and a cable box. When we got me a printer, we got this funky extension cord with a glowy orange plug that shines brighter than the streetlamp. The streetlamp must have gotten jealous cuz it decided to start turning on and off at all hours of the night whenever it felt like it. So basically the streetlamp is blinking at me in slow mo. ...Y'know it really said something when I started getting upset when the steetlamp actually blinked OFF. :-P

Then I got my stereo which has a red light that never turns off. Then I got a surge protector to accomadate all the millions of plugs so of course that has a light- so does the ups. Then there's also the intercom in case I get so sick I need help. And let's not forget how often the electric blanket or heating pad were on (another light apiece).

Blue nightlight was still downstairs on the opposite side of the house, altho the neighbors' motion-detector outside light started being more of a problem.

And do I really need mention what happened when it rained and there was lightening?

Now we're in *this* house. I still got my clock radio, a new streetlamp in front of my window, the 2 cd drives, the smaller blinking computer lights, the surge protector, the ups, the stereo, the vcr, the cable box, the occaisional use of the wierd glowing extension cord plug (with its cousin in my bathroom)...most everything still shines their lights in my general direction no matter where I put them, and most of them still have lights on after you've turned the appliance OFF. What the fuck's with THAT?!

Well, the blue nightlight hasn't been "unpacked and plugged in" yet and with my room now being the smallest it's been since age 4, the head of my bed is now directly underneath my window and the clock radio faces me when I turn over.

Now, the problem, as stated in my last post, is where do I put the glow-in-the-dark Cross (that has the green stuff on the bottom of it to keep it steady)? Well, I've had only a few of glow-in-the-dark stars/ snowflakes/ necklace/ other Cross in my room at various times before, and now I have a glow-in-the-dark remote control (for the new vcr, but it's still another light) which has to stay on my bedside table...

Um...

I guess what I'm trying to say is, I'd make a TERRIBLE air raid warden, so please, don't nuke the air force base. Thanks!

I also have way too many little lights in my room so please don't give me any more. Thank you. MUCH obliged on that last one there.
