Like the new layout?Kayla's Day Out
I knew they let you bring in your pets at PETSmart, but I didn't know you could do the same at PetCo until we went to the opening of the one they built just down the road from us. Today, Kayla's 3rd day out of her brief brumation, we took her to PetCo and she seemed to have an good time. After putting her on a cat tower, she started eyeing all of the aisles we passed.
We tried to get her interested in some balls, for exercise. She doesn't seem to know about them (great, that's 2 in a row) but she does seem very interested in having a long burrow of sorts. When I put her in the cat towers I put her on that had them, she stayed a while and then turned around to me with a look I haven't quite deciphered yet. It seems to be either "Mommy, can I get one?" or "Mommy, why isn't it longer?". Of course it also coulda been "Okay that's done now, can we go yet?" but she usually doesn't sit so still and stare so intently on that one. She did try to dig at the back wall of one to see if it went any further.
She got to ride in the car (leashed, not caged for once) without going to the vet, and also meet some people! One had never seen her kind before and was interested, one has a beardie at home, the other was one of those "Whatcha got in your jacket, lemme see...oh...a reptile" People*. It was so blessedly warm in there that I didn't have to keep Kayla in her "blanket" all of the time, and she even got some floor time.
Funniest of all (man I wish I'd thought to get the camera for this), was feeding her when we got home. There are 2 main kinds of canned crickets availible in the area: Can O'Crickets and the more expensive one with the insanely hard-to-get-off lid. One's cheaper and easier to open, the second has bigger crickets...if you can get at them. During brumation there was a leftover can of the second kind and yesterday when I opened them for feeding, Kayla & I both noticed how they didn't quite smell right. She ate all 4 yesterday, but only touched 1 today. "Mommy, this food stinks." "I agree, Baby." So when we came home and I opened a fresh can of the first kind, she greedily wolfed 4 down.
Then I opened the first-ever Can O'Superworm. I'd read that beardies can eat these, but they'd never been available to us until now. So I open the can, pick one up, place it in front of her and she's like "OMG! GIMME THAT!" Clearly she's had them before and likes them- a LOT! It's always good to have a happy dragon in the house.
And smart too. Last night while she was crawling on Mommy, she found the sweet spot on my back that my grandmother's bird had found: The One Place Where She Can't Reach Me. Usually she'll park on my neck or my head when she's pointed in that direction, but not last night. I could freely move my neck, she was no longer on the Pirate Parrot's Perch (shoulder), and she'd stopped circling my back (I tell ya, it's a happy thing to have a large lizard warm itself on ya!) so I wondered what was up til *I* figured it out. Not so fast there, liz. I have a tshirt on and it's your bedtime- come're <tugs on shirt until she slides into reach> you!
Smart girl! Now we just need to get the appartment finished so we can move in and she can get more room to stretch those legs of hers. She's just too cute.
Don't get me wrong, I love furries but I'm allergic to 'em.
