I Scored a Score!!!
Intersting story here, "For Score of Seven Years Ago":
Ever since I moved to this town, there's been a boxed set of Star Wars music in the local Camelot (now it's called Fye but it's a music store obviously) that's been there THE WHOLE TIME. That's 7 years folks. Ever since I first I first saw it I wanted it. The price was $34.99, which to me back then was a hell of a lot of money to spend on music. Remember back then I hadn't yet converted to cd, in fact I was still expanding on my now looking-rather-small cassette collection.
So 50-70% of the times I've been in there since then, I've looked for the boxed set to see if the price had ever been reduced. Years went by and I converted to cd (kinda sounds like a religion doesn't it? :-P ) and stickers were added to the plastic covers of cds when their prices went down or there was some commercial or promotional value to it because it had gone platinum or something... not once was a sticker added to it nor was the price ever changed. It's always been the ONE BOX of this and it's always been $34.99- almost always more than what I could afford (especially with the stack of cds currently in my hands).
Well today was the exception to everything. I'd last been in the store about 2-3 months ago and sure enough it was in plain sight (especially since they changed the layout) and not a single thing had changed about it back then. Well, today Mom & I went ot the mall with other intentions but for some reason this time in a spark of rememberance (for once ;-) ), I asked if I could have one of my checks to go get the box set in Camelot/Fye because I'd had my eye on it for 7 years. "Maybe" is the typical answer and "I doubt it" is the other one. I honestly don't remember what the answer was tonight, but it usually meant "no" but since we were headed towards the other end of the mall and would be passing that very store I pressed upon the "maybe" to maybe turn it into a "yes". Sometimes it's worked and sometimes it's been *Mom* and not me. :-)
Well it always helps when you know EXACTLY what you want, where it is, and the price. In this case (no pun intended on "case") I knew all of those things (after all, 7 years without change right?) and after our little trip to the other side of the mall, we discovered that we had less than 10 minutes 'til the mall closed (yes we got there late anyway). Mom got the car and I ran to the other side of the mall (we're talking length here) to go get it (with 2 checks in tow in case I made a mistake or had a detour). Sure enough I took a detour despite me telling myself "NO!". Didn't get anything and RAN into the Camelot/Fye *just* in time (cuz the Hallmark next door was already closing up along with about 40-60% of everything else in sight). I grabbed the other thing I was after (Matrix soundtrack- that's sound and not song with those hardcore stuff that make me uneasy and upset on it) and the boxed set and I GOT THEM!!!!
The cashier didn't seem to think much of my "you know how long I've been after this thing? 7 years! I've been coming in here and the price has never changed!" but no sooner had I gotten my bag and receipt than I saw Mom standing right behind me with a small smile on her face. After all, it's SEVEN FREAKIN' YEARS RIGHT?! By the way, I'm sorry Uncle Sam but you're footin' the bill on *my* property here. :-)
Remarkable, in 7 years, this boxed set has never changed and I've never gotten it- until tonight. Not only did I get it, but there was a new sticker on it I'd never seen before. A little round red sticker that said "special low price". <LOL!>WTF?!<LOL!> :-D The price hasn't changed in 7 years and most boxed sets are $30-60 and this eternally $34.99 box set has a sticker that says "special low price"?!?!?! ROTFLMH&AO!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well then again they're probably right- it's priceless. Both the music, the story, and this irony for humor. Now comes the Star Wars' fan/collector's worst nightmare: "To open or not to open? That is the question..." Well, I'm DEFINATELY opening it!!! I've waited 7 years for the music in my ears whenever and wherever I want it (from this box) and I fully intend on getting it. But first I wanna scan the unopened box so you can see what I've been seeing for 7 years- new sticker and all! Now let's hope that the plastic doesn't reflect too much light.
Oh and by the way, I *won't* be accepting hate mail on account of my opening it nor will I be accepting any offers to purchase- opened or not. :-) Especially since the date on the box is 1993. :-)
